The Company was formed as a result of an educator’s vision. Jody Allen Crowe’s experience with weapons in schools, along with the national tragedies of Sandy Hook and other school shootings led him to bring experts together to research and develop an innovative structural change to buildings that will have a lasting impact on interior control of buildings. The concept of a building intruder defensive shield is the first-of-its-kind building occupant protection system with the potential to change building infrastructures in the same manner fire sprinklers did for fire control.
The Company has office, research, and manufacturing facilities in Minneapolis, MN.
The idea started to develop in Crowe’s garage in 2013. The first patent was filed September 2014. The first simulation of the building intruder defensive shield took place in a soon-to be demolished school building in Fargo, ND in March 2014. The Crotega Research Center opened in Crystal, MN, soon after the first simulation in Fargo. The information gained from the Fargo simulation began two years of research in product design that has led to the beta placement of the first Threat Suppression System in a public school in March 2016. The second patent was filed May 2016. In June 2016, the development of proprietary touchscreen control software began. The third patent was filed October 2016. By January 2017, the Threat Suppression System was ready for market. The unique intuitive system software can monitor multiple zones, allowing building occupants to deploy the system by touch panel upon visual recognition of a threat.
The Company’s development team is comprised of experienced professionals with extensive experience in engineering, school administration, business administration, sales, and knowledge of school shooters. Jared brings a Master of Business Administration degree, along with management and organizational skills learned managing $9 million in sensitive inventory as a U.S. Army soldier deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. His role is in business development, planning, and ongoing operations.
Jody Allen Crowe is a visionary, author and entrepreneur. He is a subject matter expert in school shootings and longtime educator, principal and administrator in high risk schools. Crotega L.L.C., was founded to bring his vision of a protective shield inside of schools and public buildings to Deter | Disrupt | Delay™ active shooters. He wrote The Fatal Link which explores the connection between prenatal exposure to alcohol and school shooters. He is an international speaker in the field of forensic investigation of active shooters.
Jim Kovarik has served over 30 years as director of buildings and grounds for public, private and federal facilities. While in the private sector, he maintained over 1,000,000 sq. ft. of facilities. In the federal sector, he maintained over 150,000 sq. ft. In the public school sector, he oversaw facilities of over 3,000,000 sq. ft., and in the private education sector over 100,000 sq. ft.
With over 12 years of B2B sales experience, Tim has specialized in the professional, marketing and construction industries. Tim’s passion comes from developing employees, generating new business, improving existing businesses and establishing new partnerships. As National Sales Director, Tim will be responsible for leading the national sales team, developing subject matter experts and promoting successful customer partnerships.
Dan Murphy is a retired Detective-Sergeant from the New York City Police Department where he served for twenty years. After leaving the NYPD, Dan worked for The Bank of New York as a Financial Crimes and Fraud Investigator. He then spent eight years with Albertson’s/Supervalu as Director, Corporate, Supply Chain and Global Security and Investigations. He most recently was Senior Vice President, Chief Security Officer for US Bancorp. He is co-author of the book Workplace Safety: Establishing an Effective Violence Prevention Program.
Paul Lindsey has been in the Security/Surveillance industry for over 30 years with a specialty in the sales and installation of large scale surveillance solutions for many vertical markets. Paul’s particular area of focus is in the gaming/casino industry for both corporate and Indian Country casinos nationally. Paul has a BA from Salisbury State University in Maryland in Business Communications.
Mark Petroske is a CPA with 25 years of experience in financial management with $5 to $100 million companies. He has 20 years experience in manufacturing with 5 years in lean manufacturing. Mark has experience in leading due diligence operations in business acquisition.
Jeremiah proactively manages the coordination of internal resources and vendors while having the client's best interest at hand throughout the project. Jeremiah’s valued work experience covers both private and tribally-owned businesses, federal procurement, marketing, advertising, business development, account management, and national sales. Jeremiah is a member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, received his bachelor's degree in Speech Communications from the University of Utah and recently obtained his Master's Degree from Arizona State University in Sustainability Leadership
Mark Brengman is a licensed professional mechanical engineer whose consulting work has earned recognition from national and state engineering associations. Mark earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Minnesota. Mark also is a LEED Accredited Professional. Mark provides business development and mechanical engineering expertise to Crotega L.L.C.
Jim Lubratt is Vice President for Schwab-Vollhaber-Lubratt, Inc (SVL).
Founded in 1967, SVL is a manufacturer’s representative firm of applied HVAC equipment in Minnesota, North Dakota and Western Wisconsin. Jim is also Vice President for AQC Industries, LLC, which manufactures high density polyethylene ductwork with a rep network throughout North America.
Jim has 20 years’ experience in the HVAC industry and is a member of ASHRAE. Jim is a mechanical engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University.
Tom Mingo is President of Mingo Holdings, LLC, a St. Paul, MN investment company focused on founder-run Minnesota based, small companies seeking investment capital for growth and expansion. Prior to founding, Mingo Holdings, Tom was co-founder of Vaddio, a Minnesota based manufacturer of robotic cameras and camera control technology. At Vaddio, Tom was responsible for its Sales and Marketing efforts which grew to supporting over 2500 Dealers and Distributors worldwide. Currently, Tom is seated on boards of directors for several local companies and non-profit organizations.
Oliver’s experience includes years of formulating chemical cleaning product for electronics, metal finishing, aircraft, wood finishing, dairy processing, automotive manufacturing and other industries that used specialty formulated products. He has formulated products for the treatment of water used in industrial heating and cooling systems. He is an experienced business owner with much time spent in formulating, manufacturing, and shipping products. Responsibilities have included compliance with federal and state agencies, such as EPA, DOT, OSHA, and FDA. He has been responsible for the chemicals used in the start-up of three successful manufacturing companies.
Gary has an extensive career in children safety and quality control. He currently provides guidance and requirements to ensure compliance, product safety, quality assurance and reliability to Crotega and companies worldwide. He brings experience in ISO 9000, Failure Modes and Effects Analyses, Reliability Engineering, Supplier Certification and Total Quality Management. He is an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and an ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer and has extensive experience in technical review and filing of patents.
Shamus is a Subject Matter Expert in School Shootings. He represents school districts, businesses and local governments in complex liability, construction and transactional matters.
Dr. Charles Kyte is currently an education consultant providing workshops for administrators, conducting searches for superintendents and advising companies that interact with educators. An accomplished presenter, Dr. Kyte has spoken before numerous education groups, church and retreat groups, college classes, and service clubs. As Executive Director of MASA, he was frequently quoted in the media and has been considered to be a leading spokesperson on behalf of public education.
