A Company That Deters, Disrupts, and Delays Active Shooters

The Company was formed as a result of an educator’s vision. Jody Allen Crowe’s experience with weapons in schools, along with the national tragedies of Sandy Hook and other school shootings led him to bring experts together to research and develop an innovative structural change to buildings that will have a lasting impact on interior control of buildings. The concept of a building intruder defensive shield is the first-of-its-kind building occupant protection system with the potential to change building infrastructures in the same manner fire sprinklers did for fire control.

The Company has office, research, and manufacturing facilities in Minneapolis, MN.

The idea started to develop in Crowe’s garage in 2013. The first patent was filed September 2014. The first simulation of the building intruder defensive shield took place in a soon-to be demolished school building in Fargo, ND in March 2014. The Crotega Research Center opened in Crystal, MN, soon after the first simulation in Fargo. The information gained from the Fargo simulation began two years of research in product design that has led to the beta placement of the first Shooter Suppression System in a public school in March 2016. The second patent was filed May 2016. In June 2016, the development of proprietary touchscreen control software began. The third patent was filed October 2016. By January 2017, the Shooter Suppression System was ready for market. The unique intuitive system software can monitor multiple zones, allowing building occupants to deploy the system by touch panel upon visual recognition of a threat.

Jody Allen Crowe
Founder & CEO

Jody Allen Crowe is a visionary, author and entrepreneur. He is a subject matter expert in school shootings and longtime educator, principal and administrator in high risk schools. Crotega L.L.C., was founded to bring his vision of a protective shield inside of schools and public buildings to Deter | Disrupt | Delay™ active shooters. He wrote The Fatal Link which explores the connection between prenatal exposure to alcohol and school shooters. He is an international speaker in the field of forensic investigation of active shooters.

Dan Murphy
Chief Development Officer

Highly-experienced law enforcement and corporate security professional with extensive experience in a wide variety of investigative, management and consulting roles. Well-versed in threat assessment and management, risk assessments, security management, private and public investigations. Frequent guest speaker and lecturer on topics such as workplace violence prevention, domestic violence, counterterrorism, financial fraud, gang violence and other related subjects. I am a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI). Former NYPD Detective, Former CSO for US Bank

Tim Nielson

With over 12 years of B2B sales experience, Tim has specialized in diverse-industry verticals including startup, midsize and fortune 500 companies.  He has expertise in selling to construction, professional, manufacturing, financial, legal and medical device industries.  Throughout his career he has established new business and sold deeper into named accounts by maintaining high sales activity, leveraging expert skills in prospecting, presentations and business generation via referrals, winning numerous awards in a vibrant growing business.

Scott Pugh

Scott brings 20 years of experience in the financial industry. He takes great pride in assessing and developing an understanding of the entire business. His focus s to drive efficiencies on the accounting and systems side of the business. Scott received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Jared Crowe
COO - Chief Operations Officer

Jared brings a Master of Business Administration degree, along with management and organizational skills learned managing $9 million in sensitive inventory as a U.S. Army soldier deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. His role is in business development, planning, and ongoing operations.

Harlan Jacobs
Executive Vice President

Harlan Jacobs is the founder and president of Genesis Business Centers, Ltd., a diversified high tech, for-profit incubator program established in 1993. Mr. Jacobs is a seasoned CFO with over 20 years experience as a corporate controller and treasurer prior to becoming involved in the fields of incubation and early stage venture (seed) capital.

Oliver Nichols
Chemistry Consultant

Oliver’s experience includes years of formulating chemical cleaning product for electronics, metal finishing, aircraft, wood finishing, dairy processing, automotive manufacturing and other industries that used specialty formulated products. He has formulated products for the treatment of water used in industrial heating and cooling systems. He is an experienced business owner with much time spent in formulating, manufacturing, and shipping products. Responsibilities have included compliance with federal and state agencies, such as EPA, DOT, OSHA, and FDA. He has been responsible for the chemicals used in the start-up of three successful manufacturing companies.

Mark Brengman
Secretary, PE, Steen Engineering, Member of the Board

Mark Brengman is a licensed professional mechanical engineer whose consulting work has earned recognition from national and state engineering associations. Mark earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Minnesota. Mark also is a LEED Accredited Professional. Mark provides business development and mechanical engineering expertise to Crotega L.L.C.

Jim Lubratt
Business Consultation, Member of the Board

Jim Lubratt is Vice President for Schwab-Vollhaber-Lubratt, Inc (SVL).
Founded in 1967, SVL is a manufacturer’s representative firm of applied HVAC equipment in Minnesota, North Dakota and Western Wisconsin. Jim is also Vice President for AQC Industries, LLC, which manufactures high density polyethylene ductwork with a rep network throughout North America.
Jim has 20 years’ experience in the HVAC industry and is a member of ASHRAE. Jim is a mechanical engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University.

Mark Petroske
Member of the Board

Mark Petroske is a CPA with 25 years of experience in financial management with $5 to $100 million companies. He has 20 years experience in manufacturing with 5 years in lean manufacturing. Mark has experience in leading due diligence operations in business acquisition.

Gary Jones
Safety and Quality Control Consultant

Gary has an extensive career in children safety and quality control. He currently provides guidance and requirements to ensure compliance, product safety, quality assurance and reliability to Crotega and companies worldwide. He brings experience in ISO 9000, Failure Modes and Effects Analyses, Reliability Engineering, Supplier Certification and Total Quality Management. He is an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and an ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer and has extensive experience in technical review and filing of patents.

Shamus O’Meara
Attorney at O’Meara, Leer, Wagner & Kohl, P.A.

Shamus is a Subject Matter Expert in School Shootings. He represents school districts, businesses and local governments in complex liability, construction and transactional matters.

Charles Kyte
Educational Consultant

Dr. Charles Kyte is currently an education consultant providing workshops for administrators, conducting searches for superintendents and advising companies that interact with educators. An accomplished presenter, Dr. Kyte has spoken before numerous education groups, church and retreat groups, college classes, and service clubs. As Executive Director of MASA, he was frequently quoted in the media and has been considered to be a leading spokesperson on behalf of public education.

Rich Stanek

Rich Stanek is the co-founder and Principal Consultant with Public Safety Strategies Group, LLC., bringing his wealth of knowledge from 36 years of public safety experience to Crotega, including organizational leadership, agency management,and national law enforcement best practices. Sheriff Stanek (Ret.) served as the 27th Sheriff of Hennepin County (Minneapolis, MN) for 12 years with responsibility for the safety and security of 1.2 million residents. He managed over 1100 employees and volunteers in the largest Jail and Sheriff's Office in the Upper-Midwest and was the former President of the Major County Sheriffs of America and First Vice-President of the National Sheriff's Association. Rich served five terms in the Minnesota Legislature, before being appointed by the Governor as Commissioner of Public Safety and Director of Homeland Security for the State of Minnesota.

Jim Kovarik has served over 30 years as director of buildings and grounds for public, private and federal facilities. While in the private sector, he maintained over 1,000,000 sq. ft. of facilities. In the federal sector, he maintained over 150,000 sq. ft. In the public school sector, he oversaw facilities of over 3,000,000 sq. ft., and in the private education sector over 100,000 sq. ft.
